Marbella’s Promenade Gets a Refreshing Makeover

Get ready for a revamped stroll along Marbella’s iconic promenade! Major refurbishment work has begun, aiming to enhance the overall experience for residents and tourists alike.

This project falls under the “Plan Turístico de Grandes Ciudades de Andalucía” (Andalusia’s Large Towns and Cities Tourist Plan), a collaborative effort between the Marbella town hall and the Junta de Andalucía. With a co-financed budget of 900,000 euros, the project is set to revitalize a significant portion of the promenade.

The refurbishment encompasses several key areas:

• Over 2,300 meters of railings will be repaired or replaced with a focus on durability. The new railings, made of galvanized steel with zinc baths, will better withstand the harsh coastal environment.
• Improvements will be made to 24 beach access points, including the installation of railings and repairs to damaged marble surfaces.
• Aesthetics are also getting a refresh. Wrought-iron benches will be swapped for those made of rough brick, and some of the existing fountains will undergo a transformation.

The project is strategically timed to minimize disruption. Work commenced in La Bajadilla and will extend to the area near the Hotel Meliá Don Pepe, divided into three sections. This approach aims to limit the impact on the busy tourist season.

Councillor for public work and beaches, Diego López, emphasizes the importance of the project. “The work was necessary because in many cases we have railings that are more than 40 years old, which have to be removed because they are very deteriorated.”

This refurbishment project signifies Marbella’s commitment to maintaining its renowned promenade for future generations. The improved railings, enhanced beach access, and aesthetic upgrades are sure to create a more inviting and enjoyable experience for everyone who visits this beloved coastal town.
